fighting for

housing justice

against gentrification & displacement

Our Mission

In NYC, the struggle against displacement is urgent. Too often it is poor people of color who are harmed the most. We believe housing is a human right. We believe that the fight for housing justice must advance racial, gender, and economic justice. For us, lawyering is just one aspect in the larger battle to keep families in their homes and to defend neighborhoods. This is why we formed CoRe. ‬

Our Work.

Communities Resist works closely with a network of over 20 community-based partners that organize tenants in Brooklyn and Queens to actively represent 110 tenant associations and over 2,250 individuals in both boroughs: from Williamsburg, Bushwick, East New York, and Brownsville in Brooklyn to Jackson Heights, Flushing, and Ridgewood in Queens. Ours is a resistance that plays out both inside the courtroom and on the streets, as we fight alongside those we serve to dismantle systemic injustice. As COVID-19 has devastated the neighborhoods we serve, further exacerbating glaring racial and economic disparities in this city, our services are rapidly expanding to meet an ever growing and urgent need.
